Also Known as the Hydrogen Atmosphere Pusher Furnace
The Continuous Hydrogen Annealing Furnace, also known as the Hydrogen Atmosphere Pusher Furnace, is an industrial heat treatment system that uses a pusher mechanism to continuously convey materials through the furnace under a pure hydrogen or hydrogen-nitrogen mixed protective atmosphere. It is widely used across industries such as powder metallurgy, cemented carbide, magnetic materials, tungsten and molybdenum products, electronic ceramics, and specialty alloys for degreasing, sintering, annealing, and reduction processes — enabling high-efficiency, continuous, batch production while maintaining a clean and stable process atmosphere.

The Challenge
When delivering a complete Continuous Hydrogen Annealing Furnace solution to our customers, several critical engineering challenges must be addressed simultaneously:
Atmosphere Safety: Hydrogen is a highly flammable and explosive gas. Furnace sealing, atmosphere isolation at the loading and unloading ports, and the safety interlock system must be virtually foolproof to prevent air ingress into the furnace chamber and eliminate any risk of explosion.
Temperature Uniformity and Process Consistency: As materials from different batches continuously pass through the furnace chamber, a stable and consistent temperature profile must be maintained to ensure repeatable product performance.
Atmosphere Transition at Loading and Unloading: One of the core design challenges lies in enabling fast, smooth loading and unloading of materials at the interface between the furnace's internal atmosphere and the external ambient air, without disturbing the protective atmosphere inside.
Automation and Traceability: Customers increasingly expect reduced manual intervention alongside real-time monitoring and data logging of key process parameters such as temperature and atmosphere flow, supporting quality traceability throughout production.

Our Solution
To address these challenges, we developed a complete Continuous Hydrogen Annealing Furnace solution, customized for the customer and built on a proven pusher furnace platform:
Sealed Furnace Body with Pusher Conveying System
The furnace body is constructed as a fully welded steel structure with high-temperature refractory lining. Atmosphere transition chambers are installed at both ends of the furnace chamber, working in conjunction with the pusher mechanism to achieve continuous, smooth material conveying. Pusher motion and furnace door opening/closing are program-interlocked to minimize atmosphere fluctuation.
Sealed Loading/Unloading Chamber Design
To address the challenge of atmosphere isolation at the loading and unloading ports, the furnace is equipped with a quick-opening sealed chamber door (as shown in the flange-mounted, swing-open chamber structure). The chamber is secured with multi-point bolted connections and dedicated sealing components, paired with an independent atmosphere purging and replacement circuit. This design minimizes hydrogen leakage and external air intrusion during material transfer, striking a balance between operational convenience and atmosphere safety.
Intelligent Temperature and Atmosphere Monitoring System
The complete system is equipped with an integrated touchscreen control cabinet featuring PLC-based programmable control, multi-zone temperature profile settings, atmosphere flow and pressure monitoring, and audible/visual alarm interlocks. Operators can directly view zone-by-zone temperature readings, atmosphere status, and process curves on the touchscreen, enabling visualized process management and historical data traceability.
Comprehensive Safety Interlock System
The furnace incorporates multiple layers of protection, including hydrogen concentration detection, furnace body leak alarms, and ignition/venting safety procedures, supported by a dedicated safety cabinet and on-site fire suppression equipment (such as the fire extinguisher cabinet shown on site). These measures ensure long-term, stable operation under a hydrogen atmosphere while keeping safety risks to a minimum.
Modular Platform, Fully Customizable
As one of the mature product lines under the Brother Furnace brand, this Continuous Hydrogen Annealing Furnace platform offers excellent scalability. It can be tailored to each customer's required throughput, furnace chamber dimensions, number of temperature zones, and material characteristics — meeting the process requirements of production lines of varying scale.
Results Achieved
Through the implementation of this solution, our customer achieved:
Continuous, automated material annealing production with significantly reduced labor costs;
A stable and reliable hydrogen protective atmosphere, ensuring consistent annealing quality;
A comprehensive safety protection system that eliminates risks such as hydrogen leakage and deflagration;
Visualized process data management, supporting quality traceability and continuous process optimization.
