TC4 titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5) is a typical α+β type titanium alloy, well-known for its high specific strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good high-temperature performance, and biocompatibility. It is widely applied in aerospace, shipbuilding, chemical processing, medical implants, and high-performance sports equipment.
Its heat treatment performance is excellent; through proper quenching and aging processes, the material’s strength, fatigue life, and impact resistance can be significantly improved. In particular, the heat treatment process of TC4 in aerospace and precision manufacturing has extremely high requirements, including temperature control accuracy, heating uniformity, and matching cooling rates.
Project Case from a Danish Customer
Recently, Brother Furnace received an order from a Danish customer who needed to carry out vacuum quenching of TC4 titanium alloy for the production of aerospace components.
The customer required the equipment to heat the workpieces to approximately 1320 °C in a high-vacuum environment and transfer them within a very short time to the oil-cooling chamber for rapid quenching, thereby achieving the desired mechanical properties and surface quality.
Customer Requirements Analysis
The customer’s core requirements included:
* Material: TC4 titanium alloy
* Process temperature: 1320 °C
* Process type: Dual-chamber vacuum oil quenching
* Effective heating zone: 500 × 500 × 700 mm
* No oxidation or contamination during heating
* Rapid and uniform cooling to prevent workpiece deformation
* High temperature control accuracy, suitable for mass production
Brother Furnace’s Customized Solution
Based on the characteristics of TC4 titanium alloy and the customer’s requirements, we designed and manufactured a 1320 °C dual-chamber vacuum oil quenching furnace with the following highlights:
* Dual-chamber structure
One vacuum heating chamber for high-temperature heating and another oil-cooling chamber for rapid quenching, enabling oxidation-free transition from heating to cooling.
* Optimized furnace size
Effective working zone of 500 × 500 × 700 mm to accommodate the customer’s workpiece loading and processing needs.
* Precise temperature control system
High-precision PID control ensures temperature uniformity within ±5 °C throughout the furnace.
* Vacuum environment protection
Reduces impurity contamination and alpha-case formation, minimizing subsequent machining.
* Efficient oil quenching system
Equipped with high-speed circulation and oil-temperature control, the adjustable cooling rate reduces quenching deformation risks.
Conclusion
This customized dual-chamber vacuum oil quenching furnace not only meets the Danish customer’s strict requirements for TC4 titanium alloy heat treatment but also significantly improves production efficiency and product consistency. Brother Furnace will continue to provide high-performance, customized vacuum heat treatment equipment solutions to customers worldwide.
